…Actually I couldn’t bring myself to finish it

…. is how many pictures I took at Parade the Circle. It’s going to take me forever to pare these down to a publishable set. Such a beautiful day. Had we been sitting in the sun the weather would have been perfect.

We tried to get down there early to save curb space. We arrived more than an hour early and we still could not find suitable curb space. I’ll have to plan for 10am next time.

Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for any of the performances because we had this strange, what to call it, kind of a memorial for a suicide. A friend’s sister had committed suicide this week and we got together to help her sort of, memorialize her sister.

We had no idea what to do or how to dress. We bought some pre-prepared food from whole foods and dressed sort of “business casual”.

There was a lot of food and a few readings. People who knew her were crying. Other than that it was more like a party.

Sunday the beautiful weather continued and after some necessary running around Sunday morning I got to spend the afternoon relaxing and writing code for a php project. I’ve yet to get good and reliable development environment set up for PHP so I’m still editing files locally and then copy the files up to the server to run – debugging with print statements.

My tenant has signed the lease. That will take some financial stress away (I hope).

The final cleaning was a sweating, dirty affair taking about 15 hours but the place looked move-in fresh. I hope she has at least half as good a time there as I did.

I was looking for a place to bring my computer for repair. Although I’m a “Computer Guy” I don’t like messing with the hardware. But how to chose? There’s dozens of places in the phone book.

I decided to look for personal recommendations and ask at work. The very first guy I asked said he doesn’t take computers anywhere, he fixes them himself. Turns out he has his own side business repairing computers. I offered to buy him lunch if he’d take a look at mine.

I brought it in the next day. First thing, he removes the video card and connects a monitor to the integrated video port and powers up. Voila, just like that, video returned.

So it’s the video card right?

Just to make sure, we put the video card back to see what happened. Guess what? That worked too!

So what was the problem? We don’t know!

People at work were asking about my shuttle having seen it back in the office. I’d tell them how, just taking it apart and putting it back together fixed it, and they’d say “Yeah, they do that sometimes.”

I hate hardware.

I’m sorry I ever bought this thing.

It broke the first week after delivery. I had to send it back to CA. It was the power supply.

It worked about 10 more months then the power supply died again. I got them to send me a new power supply – still under warranty but they charged me $10 – and I replaced it myself.

A few months later the monitor died. I think it may have been out of warranty by that point but, in anycase, I tossed it and bought a viewsonic.

Now it’s dead again. It’s not the power supply this time – it powers up, but I don’t think it’s booting. I don’t hear the hard drives spin up. I can’t boot from the CD and I never see anything on the monitor.

I’m half thinking I should just remove the hard drives, toss it and buy a new computer.

Shit To Do

I did some painting of my condo today. What a hassle. When I was done it was several hours later than when I started, my back was sore, my place was a mess and my walls looked like shit.

Maybe I should have paid someone.

I’m so ignorant as well. The first time I bought something called “Base” Interior Paint. It lokked like white paint but when Brenda started putting it on the walls she started complaining that it “wasn’t covering anything”. I tried it and saw the same thing. You could paint it on the wall but, any dirt or stain on the wall showed right through.

I had to take all the paint back and I got regular white primer. It covers better but still doesn’t look so good. Partially that’s due to my incompetence but maybe also because it’s primer and not paint.

This week was the housing inspection for my condo. It was surprisingly short. He checked some outlets, turned the sinks on, checked the smoke alarm and that was about it. The only issue was I had an outlet that was uncovered but since I had extra outlet covers on hand he didn’t write me up for that.

This weekend I have a lot of condo stuff to do like, painting and packing. Ugh. I don’t want to do all this stuff. It’s only Saturday morning and I feel like the weekend is essentially over. No free time for blogging! – or even fun stuff.

After years of rumors the legendary eating machine Jake has finally been caught on film! This candid footage of the insatiable omnivore was taken over the weekend. His fearsome appetite knows no bounds.

After cleaning his plate, he ate the plate AND the silverware. He went on to eat all the nearby toys, then the furniture and the carpeting. We watched in disbelief as the entire room disappeared down the monster’s gullet. Unfortunately our cameraman got too close and was snatched and eaten by the Jake.

Finding nothing left to eat the Jake wandered off but just before he left he grabbed his belly and with a loud BUUUUUUUURRRPPPP spit out the cameraman’s camera and so we were able to recover this film.
